Good evening, On Monday, March 23, 2020, Governor Wolf issued a stay-at-home order for seven counties in Pennsylvania. Thankfully none of the counties are located in the A-CV school district.
In addition to this order, the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) announced today that all schools in the commonwealth will remain closed through at least April 6 as a result of the COVID-19 response efforts. Keep in mind that the Governor could extend this closure beyond April 6 in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19.
Under the new timeline, school buildings would reopen on April 7 for two days to allow school administrators, teachers, and other staff time to prepare classrooms, set up cafeterias, schedule transportation, and other business operations. Students would return to school on April 9 (with no state testing) unless the closure is extended. (Retrieved from PDE/Pedro Rivera)
Under Governor Wolf’s order, personnel at the educational entities who are providing life-sustaining services can work, provided they adhere to social distancing guidelines.
At A-CV we are down to a very limited number of staff members who are still working, and we are doing our best to keep our staff healthy and our facilities free of this virus. We are proud to have the buildings in pristine condition; all the classrooms, hallways, and large group areas have been thoroughly cleaned and will be ready for our students and staff upon our return.
If this statewide closure continues, the district will be exploring options on providing an educational program to our students that would not violate Civil Rights and Educational Law. Without going into great detail, there are laws that require educational entities to provide an educational program that meets the needs of all of our students. Without being face to face and with limited internet access in our geographic location, we are not currently able to provide the same educational service to all of our students. This is why we are not providing any sort of distance learning at this time.
With all that said, we remain optimistic that we will be returning to school in the near future and be able to provide the educational program that we always have in the past.
